Michael's Musings
Something Upsetting
by Michael B. Druxman on 10/16/11
October 17, 2011
First, there are three new reviews up on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.
They reviews are of the British mini-series TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY, which starred Alec Guinness, FATHER OF INVENTION, a new Kevin Spacey movie and the classic horror film, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS with Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi. Released by The Criterion Collection, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS is, surprisingly, making its DVD debut. So, please take a look.
My interview with Cult Radio on Saturday night went very well. These interviewers ask good questions and the half-hour session was fun.
Now, here's something I came across on Saturday afternoon that, frankly, upset me quite a bit. You watch it, then draw your own conclusions. If the link doesn't work, then just copy the address into your browser.

Teaching Again
by Michael B. Druxman on 10/13/11
October 14, 2011
It looks like I'm going to be teaching again.
The dates aren't set yet, but I had a meeting yesterday with the people at the Austin Film School and they want me to conduct a 2-day seminar on The Art of Storytelling on a weekend in mid-January.
Suddenly, I'm getting busy.
Tomorrow (Saturday) night at 8pm (Pacific Time), I'll be doing an interview on Cult Radio, then:
Next week, on Thursday and Friday, I will be heading roundtable discussions at the Austin Film Festival, then:
Next month, on November 11-13, I will be signing books at the Austin Comic Con.
While all this is going on, I will also be casting and directing a scene from MR. ROBERTS for a Jewish War Veterans benefit at my temple.
Wheew!
While I rest up, you have a creative weekend. I'll be back on Monday.

OBAMA VISITS SCHOOL IN WEST VIRGINIA
by Michael B. Druxman on 10/12/11
October 13, 2011
Barack Obama, at a recent rural elementary school assembly in West Virginia, asked the audience for total quiet.
Then, in the silence, he started to slowly clap his hands once every few seconds, holding the audience in total silence.
Then he said into the microphone, "Children, every time I clap my hands together, a child in America dies from gun violence."
Then, little nine-year old Bubba Earl, with a proud West Virginia drawl, pierced the quiet and said, "Well, dumbass, stop clapping!"
I've posted a review from BAD TEACHER with Cameron Diaz on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page. Please take a look.
You have a creative day.
