Hallmark Greetings
by Michael B. Druxman on 10/24/11

A Hallmark-style greeting I found on the internet:
So your daughter's a hooker,
and it spoiled your day,
Look at the bright side,
it's really good pay.
Another Hallmark-wannabe-remark:
I'm so miserable without you,
it's almost like you're here.
You have a creative day.

New Game Plan

Yesterday, we held auditions for the MR. ROBERTS scene staging and only two people showed up...neither of whom were really right for the roles. So, unless somebody pulls a rabbit out of a hat, I don't think that we will be doing that scene for the upcoming Jewish Veterans Benefit at the temple next month.
As an alternative, I suggested doing an excerpt from my play, JOLSON; the part in which Al Jolson entertains the troops during World War 2.
If we can find somebody fast to do the role, I think we'll go ahead with it. Otherwise, I will be bowing out of the event. People are going to pay to go see this thing and there is no sense giving them crap.
My schedule is fairly clear now until November 11-13 when I will be doing the Austin Comic Con. I had fun and sold a lot of books there last year, so I'm looking forward to doing it again.
Fingers crossed that we can find an Al Jolson.
Have a creative day.

Austin Film Festival

I attended the Austin Film Festival yesterday as an panelist for a screenwriting roundtable.
I met some very interesting people, a couple of whom have a lot of professional experience in the film industry and are looking to branch out. One of them is a film editor who wants to try her hand at screenwriting and another is a fellow about my age, or perhaps a little younger, who had a viable career as a television writer, but like me, fell victim to the "gray list". He now teaches at a college here in Texas.
I'm going back today for another roundtable.
On Sunday, we are having auditions at my temple for the upcoming MR. ROBERTS reading that I will be directing. I just hope that enough actors show up.
Not much else happening, so you have a creative weekend and I'll be back on Monday.
