Here's a Humphrey Bogart anecdote from my memoir, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD AND HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE.
The late ClaireTrevor, who met with me in her Newport Beach home, told me
how she had been cast in her Oscar-winning role in director John Huston's
Key Largo (1948), which also starred Humphrey Bogart, Edward G.
Robinson, Lauren Bacall and Lionel Barrymore.
"My husband (Milton Bren) shamed Bogart into getting me the
part," she said. "They were in a steam room, and Milton kept pushing
Bogie, saying "You're not a big star. If you were really a star, you'd go to
Jack Warner and insist that Claire get that part.'
"Eventually, Milton wore him down. Bogie did go to Warner and I
got the role."
