I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving.

I've spent much of the last week launching my two new books. 

SEXY REXY, my 5 character dark comedy about Rex Harrison and the women in his life, is now available in both paperback and Kindle editions.  I think it turned out rather well, and even though Harrison was not the most likable individual, you should find my handling of him appropriate.  Indeed, if you find Larry David's character on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM funny, then you will definitely like this.

MURDER IN BABYLON is my novel based on the William Desmond Taylor murder, Hollywood's most infamous unsolved mystery.  This is a book that I actually wrote about 40 years ago, then completely forgot about.  I discovered the manuscript in my storage space a few months back and, after updating it slightly, sent it off to my publisher, BearManor Media.  I'm rather proud of this one, which has an official release date of December 16th.

BearManor is also publishing two more of my books later in 2015: my Dinah Shore biography and a reprint of my first book, which dealt with actor Paul Muni.

My next project is going to be another book of short stories and/or novellas... depending on how long they turn out to be.  I've got three of them that I want to get down on paper, so it's going to be awhile before they become available.

By the time you read this, or certainly within a day or two of that, I will have uploaded a new review to the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.  I haven't watched the film yet, but it looks interesting.  It's called STONEHEARST ASYLUM and it stars Kate Beckinsale, Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine.

Because this is Thanksgiving week, unless something spectacular happens, I probably won't be writing a blog entry next weekend, so my next entry will be December 1st.

Right now, I'm playing the usual waiting game that I play after I've finished my work on a project.  I'm expecting my proof for SEXY REXY, my 5 character play about Rex Harrison, momentarily.  Once I check that, I will take the steps necessary to have it for sale in both paperback and Kindle editions; probably by the end of this week, or the first of next.

I've also sent in my corrections on the final proof of MURDER IN BABYLON, my novel about the William Desmond Taylor murder.  I should get the corrected proof to sign off on sometime this week, then it's up to BearManor, my publisher, to take it from there.  Fingers crossed that we can make it for the holidays on this one.

As I may have mentioned in an earlier blog, I'm planning to write another book of short stories next.  There are several that I've been playing with over the years and, since I'm not getting any younger, I want to get them down on paper while I still can.

The Best Bets on DVD site is currently down again, but it will be back up on the first.  At that time you can read the review of the Monte Hellman double feature I posted a few days ago, THE SHOOTING and RIDE WITH THE WHIRLWIND, both starring Jack Nicholson.

Nothing much else to report.  So, have a Happy Thanksgiving, and I'll see you on the 1st.

Even though they are dated for Monday, I usually write my blog entries on Saturday or Sunday, but this week I'm posting on Friday night.

Today, I received the final proof of MURDER IN BABYLON, my novel about the William Desmond Taylor murder, and, in order that we can make it available for holiday giving, I'm going to have to proofread it this weekend, so that I can get it back to the publisher on Monday or Tuesday.  It's a time consuming job and I want to be able to concentrate fully on it.

I can now announce that the 12th entry in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection will also be available for the holidays.  The final proof is on the way to me and once I okay it, both the paperback and Kindle editions should be on-line within a couple of day.

The name of this play is SEXY REXY, and it deals with Rex Harrison and the women in his life: actresses Lilli  Palmer, Kay Kendall, Rachel Roberts and Carole Landis.  All five characters appear onstage.  The play is a dark character comedy, dramatizing some pretty scandalous events in the life of the star of MY FAIR LADY.

So, I'm probably going to be doing a lot of proofreading through next week.

More on both these projects later.

Finally, although I haven't watched it yet, I'll probably be watching THE GIVER with Meryl Street and Jeff Bridges within the next few days, and that review will be posted on the Best Bets on DVD site accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.
