What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

Slow Week

by Michael B. Druxman on 01/24/15

January 26, 2015

This past week was rather slow.  Also cold and wet here in Austin.

I continue to write on my book of short stories/novellas, but it's also slow going.  I seem to write just a page or so a day.  I guess I need to get motivated.

I'm sure that part of the problem is that I have other books coming out this year (i.e. the Dinah Shore biography and the Paul Muni reprint), so there is really no hurry to finish this next one.

It also looks like I'll be working with Fred Frees again on the audio version of MURDER IN BABYLON.  Fred did the audio book of DRACULA MEETS JACK THE RIPPER & Other Revisionist Histories, and he's terrific.

The Best Bets on DVD site is down again, but when it goes back up on February 1st, there will be a review of THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY.  So, look for it.

What else?

We're still trying to put together an Austin  production of B MOVIE sometime this summer, but I'll talk more about that when we have something more substantial.

In the meantime, you have a creative week.

Cold, But Not As Wet

by Michael B. Druxman on 01/17/15

January 19, 2015

There wasn't as much rain here in Austin this past week, but it was so cold that I rarely ventured out of the house.  It's a good thing that I'm a writer, so I can work at home.

On Friday, it warmed up a bit, so I went out, gassed up the car, ran some errands, got an overdue haircut and picked up the mail.  Later this week, the cold and rain are supposed to return.  :-(

I continue to work on the 2-3 short stories (or novellas) that will be my next new book.  I say "new," because my next 2 books to go on sale are anything but new.  My Dinah Shore biography (MISS DINAH SHORE) was, for the most part, written 35+ years ago, and my Paul Muni biography is a reprint (with a new Introduction) of my first book,  Both will be out later this year.

How did you feel about the Academy Award nominations?

Since I don't go to movie theaters any longer (not since 2012), I've only seen the films that have been released onto DVD or Blu-ray.  I really liked BOYHOOD and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL.  I expect BOYHOOD to win the major awards, but if GRAND BUDAPEST pulled an upset, that would be okay with me.

I just received a copy of GONE GIRL, but have not watched it yet.  Its only major nomination is for Rosamund Pike as Best Actress.  I'm looking forward to seeing it.

You have a creative week.

Cold and Wet

by Michael B. Druxman on 01/10/15

January 12, 2015

It is so cold and wet here in Austin, as I write this.  I hate the cold.

SEXY REXY, my play about Rex Harrison, got a very nice review on Amazon this past week.  If you get a chance, please go check it out.

In other news, I did a radio interview on Friday with Mary Jane Popp.  We discussed MURDER IN BABYLON, my novel about the William Desmond Taylor murder.  I thought the interview went well.

Earlier that day, I had an appointment with my heart doctor...and he says that I will live.  The old ticker is going strong.

I'm currently working on one of a couple of stories that I started writing a long time ago.  Depending on how they turn out, length-wise, I may release them individually or as part of an anthology.  We shall see.

I finally saw BOYHOOD this past week.  It's a marvelous movie, which will probably win the est Picture Oscar this year.  It's out on home video now, so please check it out.

You have a creative week.
