What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

The First Draft is Finished!

by Michael B. Druxman on 01/12/13

January 14, 2013

Chester has settled in and it's like he's been with us all his life.  He's a very smart dog; picks up what you want him to do almost immediately.

We are very lucky to have found him.

This past week, I finished the first draft of my Basil Rathbone play.  For the most part, I like it...but there are a few elements that disturb me.  I'm going to let a couple people read it during the next week or so, get their comments, then go back and fiddle with the script.

One of the problems I faced with this one-person play, as opposed to my others, is that Rathbone didn't have any strong dramatic moment in his personal life.  Clark Gable had to deal with Carole Lombard's death, Errol Flynn had the rape trail, Maurice Chevalier was accused of being a Nazi collaborator during WW2, and so forth.

But, comparatively speaking, Rathbone's personal life was relatively uneventful.  Aside from his being typecast as Sherlock Holmes, there were no great life altering moments.  So, my major conflict then has to do with his relationship with his wife, Ouida, which was definitely a problem for him.

I will try to ignore the script for the next 2-4 weeks, then come back to it with fresh eyes.

You have a creative week.

Chester Is Here!

by Michael B. Druxman on 01/05/13

January 7, 2013

Happy New Year, everybody!

This past Thursday (3), we picked up our new dog, Chester, at the kennel.  He has a sweet disposition and he seems to be settling in well with us.  The only issue at this point is that he likes to eat his poop, so we will have to do something about that.

Here's his photo, and if this Facebook link doesn't work for you, just copy the following address into your browser and you will be taken right there.

I'm now about 2/3 the way through the first draft of my Basil Rathbone play.

Also, I've recently posted a review of the original THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1934), directed by Alfred Hitchcock. on the Best Bets on DVD site.  You can access it via the link in the Introduction section of this page.

That's about it for now.  Chester wants us to take him to the pet store to get some stuff.

You have a creative week.

Happy Holidays!

by Michael B. Druxman on 12/23/12

December 24, 2012

Barring some exciting news, this will be my final blog post for 2012.

I'm working on my Basil Rathbone play, which seems to be going well, doing a couple of book trailers and, sometime this week, I will upload a review of LOOPER with Bruce Willis to the Best Bets on DVD site, which you will be able to access via the link in the Introduction section of this page.

I'm also looking forward to getting Chester, our new dog, on January 3rd.

But, beyond that, nothing much is happening around here.

So, have a safe, happy and creative Christmas and New Year's, and I'll be back with you on January 7th.

Michael
