Bottle of Merlot
A man asked a waiter to take a bottle of Merlot to an unusually attractive woman sitting alone at a table in a cozy little restaurant.
So the waiter took the Merlot to the woman and said, "This is from the gentleman who is seated over there." He indicated the sender with a nod of his head.
She stared at the wine coolly for a few seconds, not looking at the man, then decided to send a reply to him by a note. The waiter, who was lingering nearby for a response, took the note from her and conveyed it to the gentleman.
The note read: "For me to accept this bottle, you need to have a Mercedes in your garage, a million dollars in the bank and 7 inches in your pants."
After reading the note, the man decided to compose one of his own in return. He folded the note, handed it to the waiter and instructed him to deliver it to the
lady.
It read: "Just to let you know things aren't always what they appear to be. I have a Ferrari Maranello, BMW Z8, Mercedes CL600, and a Porsche Turbo in my several garages; I have beautiful homes in Aspen and Miami, and a 10,000 acre ranch in Louisiana . There is over twenty million dollars in my bank account and portfolio. But, not even for a woman as beautiful as you, would I cut off three inches. Just send the wine back."

The Last Days of Annie
by Michael B. Druxman on 09/05/11

My cat, Annie, is dying.
She's a sweet animal and has been with me for over fifteen years, so it is not going to be easy saying "goodbye". Those of you who know me, know that I'll probably be an emotional "basket case" when her time finally comes.
About a month ago, she was having some problems, so the vet did an ultrasound on her, thinking it was her kidneys, but they discovered that her liver is filled with tumors.
Frankly, over the last week or so, we've expected her to go any day, but she is a strong one and keeps holding on. Although she is losing weight and doesn't seem to be as agile as usual, she is still eating, going to the bathroom and, most importantly, does not seem to be in any pain.
All she really wants to do is go off by herself and hide.
I guess she knows that her time is short, and even Missy, our dog who has always known Annie, is aware that she is "not right".
We will continue to keep her comfortable, but I'm hoping that we won't have to put her down. That would be (for me) such a painful thing to do and, even though it might be an act of kindness, one always feels a sense of guilt in doing it.
Now that I've managed to depress you, I'll move on.
I've just posted a review of MEET MONICA VELOUR on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page, so please take a look,
You have a creative day.

Happy Labor Day
by Michael B. Druxman on 08/31/11

Since people seem to be starting their Labor Day vacations early, I think I'm going to do the same.
Me? I'm thinking very seriously of adapting my short story, THE OLD COOT, into a one-act play. It would probably only take a couple of hours to do that since I've already done a screenplay version.
So, you have a safe and creative weekend and I'll be back with you on Tuesday (6).
