What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

Leslie Nielsen

by Michael B. Druxman on 11/29/10

November 30, 2010

So sorry to hear about the passing of Leslie Nielsen.

Here is a short passage about him from my memoir, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD AN HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE.

Another time that I was with a publicity client in the green room at the Robert Q. Lewis radio show, I chatted with Leslie Nielsen, who was also guesting that day. This was long before he reinvented himself as a comic actor by appearing in Airplane.

Nielsen was under contract then to Universal, doing episodic television and "B" movies, and he was very unhappy about it. "I sold out my career for money," he said. "I have nobody to blame but myself."

Maybe Nielsen wasn't doing the kind of roles he wanted, but at least he was working steadily, which is more than you can say for most actors.

You see and hear some very interesting things in green rooms.

Things (and careers) certainly change, don't they?

You have a creative day.

Michael

Michael, very impressive website. Perhaps Leslie had hoped to have the career of lets say Henry Fonda. But how many Actors Career's got Steam rollered by Hollywood trying to play Hardball with the Studios regarding Big Money and Showcase roles. Acting has always been a Vocation of Crushing Disappointment and Fickle Certainty. But there is no more crushing disappointment and Fickleness than an Actor not having work. An Actor who can find a niche and do the Best Work He can, is ahead or The Game. And personally I think if people are actually entertained by your films like say Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr Chicken you will likely have done more Benefit in Your Vocation than waitng and Praying for That Schindler's List to Come along to catapault you to Greatness or Super Stardom. You can have all the Talent in the World and never get anywhere. But I think Leslie Nielsen will be Remembered and Loved for a lot longer than Liam Neeson because He Really Entertained us and mase us laugh till we split our Guts in endless Cheeseball films.
