What took you so long to get here?
Where have you been all my life?
I’ll tell you where I’ve been.

I’ve been in show business!

Ever since I was a little kid and heard Pinocchio singing, “Hey, diddly-dee, an actor’s life for me,” that’s what I wanted. Well, not to be an actor.
I got tired of that during my freshman year in college.

So, what to do, what to do. . .

After many years as a Hollywood press agent, I became a writer…movies, stage plays, books.
Anything that was a challenge.  I love telling stories.

After all, with due respect to actors, directors and other artists, isn’t the only truly creative aspect of the performing arts the written word?
Everything else is “interpretation”.

On this site you will find links to my many stage plays that are available for licensing, listings of my books that are available for purchasing, some of my screenplays that are available for optioning, plus my blog that will keep you apprised of my various on-going activities and we can get to know each other, maybe too well.

If you’re into DVDs, take a look at my monthly newsletter, BEST BETS ON DVD.

Also, if you have a story that you want told, either in screenplay or book form, I am still a writer-for-hire.  Have Mac-Will Write.

So, please sign the guest book and share your thoughts and comments on my blog.  But, let’s play nice!

Don’t be such a stranger.  Keep coming back!

Interview on Tuesday

by Michael B. Druxman on 05/03/14

May 5, 2014

On Tuesday (6), I'm scheduled to tape a video interview in which I am supposed to advise aspiring writers on how to break into show business.  The problem is that I don't know how to break into show business today.

Yes, I've been in show business all my adult life, but the business has changed so much over the years that the conditions that existed when I first journeyed to Hollywood no longer exist.

I guess that I would do what I did back in 1963.  I would get a regular job, network like hell and look for a new opening the the wall that protects the "Hollywood castle".

Unfortunately, the business itself is currently in a state of limbo.  With streaming and low attendance in movie theaters becoming a major factor, I don't even think today's studio heads are really sure what they should do in order to stay profitable.

As I've often said: "The good thing about the business today is that anybody can make a movie.  The bad thing is that anybody can make a movie.

The big question is: How are you going to sell those movies?

I've posted three new DVD reviews (all classic films) on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page.  They are: JOHNNY COME LATELY with Jimmy Cagney, FLYING TIGERS with John Wayne and HOME OF THE BRAVE with Frank Lovejoy.  Please take a look.

You have a creative week.

Michael
