Michael's Musings
Good Reading

Wife Sandy returned from Los Angeles on Thursday, so everything is back to normal, which I like.
On Saturday, we had three Austin actors over to the house to do a reading of B MOVIE. It went well, and now we are going to make a concerted effort to get the play on stage here by (or soon after) the end of the year. These fine performers are all well connected in the Austin theatre scene, which I am not, so fingers crossed.
The Best Bets on DVD site is down until the end of first of the month, but when it goes back up, you'll find reviews of THE IMITATION GAME, KIDNAPPING MR. HEINIKEN and THE IMMIGRANT, so please take a look. You can access the site via the link in the Introduction section of this page.

On My Own This Week

Last Tuesday (17), I drove wife Sandy to the airport and she is now in Los Angeles, visiting our new granddaughter and other folk. I do miss her, but she will be back this coming Thursday (26). Chester, our dog, and I are surviving.
We are getting a lot of needed rain right now in Austin. I've spent my time doing some writing, and watching some films that I know would not interest Sandy.
One picture that I did view again after many years was HEAVEN'S GATE, the movie that virtually destroyed United Artists. Visually, it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, and the basic (true) story is fascinating, but the film runs 3 1/2 hours and that is, at least, an hour too long.
I guess director Michael Cimino got into the editing room and could not bear to cut any of his gorgeous footage. Too bad, because there was the potential for a great movie in all of that footage.
Next Saturday (28), I'm having some actors over to the house to do a reading of my play, B MOVIE. It's my hope that, assuming everything comes together, that we can create a "package" and bring the play into one of the local theatre companies for a production, and if that goes well, perhaps we can do a minor "tour". Logistically, it's a simple play to stage, so moving to other theaters should not be a major issue. We shall see.
