Michael's Musings
Sleepy Me

This is going to be a very short entry.
I have not been sleeping the last couple of days.
Could it be because I'm going to be 70 on Wednesday (23)?
Whatever the reason, I'm going to go lie down as soon as I finish writing this.
I've posted a review of the disturbing 1978 cult classic and its 2010 remake, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link on the Introduction section of this page. So, take a look.
Have a creative day, and I'll be back tomorrow.

Elvis & Me

I found something very interesting yesterday on You Tube.
I came across a short (2+ minute) film, entitled Elvis in Seattle, which is about Elvis Presley's 1963 movie, IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR, which was shot in my home town in 1962.
I was between my junior and senior years at the University of Washington when that film was made, and on one particular summer day, I worked as an extra...my first "professional" show biz job. I got $10 and a box lunch.
You can read all about that experience in my memoir, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD AND HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE.
In any event, you can see me very clearly (and briefly) in this You Tube short. About halfway through, there is a close shot of a little boy (Kurt Russell), and I walk right behind him. I'm 21-years-old there, no beard, I have a full head of hair and I'm wearing a dark jacket.
You can click on the above link to see my debut, or if that doesn't work, paste the following into your browser:

You have a creative weekend, and I'll be back with you on Monday.

A Prediction

With Borders filing for Chapter 11, can Barnes & Noble be far behind?
Frankly (and sadly), I think the day of the brick/mortar bookstore is coming to an end.
It's not going to be too long before the only brick/mortar bookstores around are used bookstores.
That, for an author and a publisher, means that, whether a book is "returnable" or not is really going to be a moot issue.
You didn't know I was a sage, did you.
:-)
You have a creative day.
