Charla

Charla Doherty was a fairly successful child actress who is probably best remembered for her roles in Take Her, She’s Mine (1963), as Jimmy Stewart’s youngest daughter, and Village of the Giants (1965). For a time, she was also a regular on Days of Our Lives (1965-66).
Charla and I were a couple for the last eighteen months of her life.
My newly published screenplay, CHARLA, is inspired by her story and what happened during those troubled eighteen months. It is definitely one of the most personal pieces I have ever written, and it is available in both paperback and on Kindle.
Here's the link to the book trailer, and if that doesn't work, just copy the address below into your browser and you should be taken right there.

I hope you get a chance to read it.
Finally, I've posted a review of THE SAPPHIRES on the Best Bets on DVD site, accessible via the link in the Introduction section of this page, so please take a look.

Busy! Busy! Busy!

This past week has been a busy one, and this coming week is remaining busy.
First, my screenplay for RIDE ALONG is now available. Here is the link to the book trailer, and if that doesn't work, just copy the below address into your browser and you should be taken right there.

RIDE ALONG is a fun read. I think you'll enjoy it.
My other published screenplay, CHARLA, should be available in a week or so. I just received the proof from the publisher, so once I have a chance to correct that, it will go live.
I've also finished the first draft of the rewrite of the play version of THE SUMMER FOLK. I'm rather happy with it and, once I get a chance to go over it again, I'll send it off to the theater in Soap Lake and, hopefully, a production date will be locked in for next June.
Also set this week is a one-day writing class I will be teaching in late September, as well as a speaking engagement in November to promo my new memoir. We locked the cover in on that one this week.
That brings everything up to date...and I'm exhausted, so that's all for now.
You have a creative week.

Still Another Published Screenplay
by Michael B. Druxman on 07/13/13

My screenplay for RIDE ALONG should be available for purchase in both paperback and Kindle editions sometime this week. It's a fun romantic action comedy about a tough lady cop and a liberal district attorney who are stuck together one night in a "ride along". I hope you'll take a look at it.
I've also decided to publish one other of my screenplays, CHARLA, which was inspired by my relationship with actress Charla Doherty, who passed away in 1988. It's been sitting on my shelf ever since, but now I'm going to make it public...with her son's blessing.
CHARLA was not an easy script to write. Indeed, it was certainly the most personally emotionally painful one I have ever written.
Paperback and Kindle editions should be available by the end of this month.
I also got a message this past week from the artistic director of the community theater in Soap Lake, WA, the town that my family and I spent our summers when I was a kid during the late 1940s and early 1950s.
She had read my published screenplay, THE SUMMER FOLK, which deals with my time there, and she would like to do it as a stage play.
Actually, I had written a stage version many years ago, long before I began working on a computer, so there is no electronic copy. In any event, I found the script, read it and was not too happy with it. As a writer, I've come a long way since I wrote that stage play.
Nevertheless, the idea of having this story presented on stage in the town that it is set is certainly intriguing, so I'm going to spend the next few weeks trying to doctor the script to my liking. If I can, the theater wants to produce it next June and I will try my best to be in attendance.
I will keep you informed.
You have a creative week.
